The gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to build extensively on the more open combat and traversal systems that helped define the original Breath of the Wild. For starters, the world has been stretched to the skies, with Link leaping from dungeons suspended above the clouds and using all-new abilities (now powered by the glowing sword arm, rather than the Sheikah slate) to quickly ascend. from the ground. in the air. Also, it looks like the sheer number of available weapons (and demotion) will likely return, with Link equipped with a wooden axe, various swords, different shields, bow and arrows, and more in all three trailers. Between Sheikah’s new and returning abilities and the addition of more open-ended exploration, it sounds like Tears of the Kingdom is ready to smartly build on what came before.

Naturally, the new trailer opened with Hylian’s mysterious writing and drawing, for which it has put the internet in detective mode, while the prominence of “tears” in the subtitle makes us wonder if echoes of Zelda: Twilight Princess will play out. a role here, given ‘Tears’ prominence throughout the GameCube game’s adventure.

We’ll once again be able to venture through the vast lands of Hyrule, though now you’ll have a more vertical play space to contend with. The skies have opened, with Link able to move between floating islands and dungeons.
