After 23 years, U.S. Marshals thought they had a hot lead on one of the most wanted fugitives in America.
But a few days after announcing that bank scammer John Ruffo was lurking through the crowds of a packed Dodger stadium in Los Angeles, the baseball fan turned out to be a normal guy watching the Dodgers against the Boston Red Sox.
The family of sports enthusiasts recognized his face in the crowd after the search for the U.S. marshal went viral this week.
“In response to recent media coverage, an insider came forward and provided credible information on the identity of the Dodgers game goer,” the US Marshalls said in a statement.
“The informant and family members fully cooperated with the police and provided detailed information about the assistant.”
This is a developing story and will be updated.
