Clara McGregor has revealed that she struggled with an addiction to tranquilizers.
The 25-year-old model, daughter of ‘Star Wars’ actor Ewan McGregor, 50, made the heartfelt revelation while modeling lingerie, revealing that she would “forget entire days” when taking Xanax.
She said: “When I was taking Xanax I had no energy and I was starting to forget things. That’s the scary thing, I forgot whole days. It was incredibly difficult for me to quit, but I didn’t.” I want to be in that space never again and would never consider taking one again.
“Anxiety is suffocating. I am 25 years old now and have spent a lot of time working on it with therapy, but only in the last three or four years have I felt less constrained by it. My sister Esther and my mom are very helpful. “
Clara was initially prescribed the drug, which activates a brain chemical known as gamma-aminobutyric acid and thus slows down activity in the brain, as a result of her poor mental health.
The brunette beauty, who has recently been named a global ambassador for Bluebella lingerie, admitted that due to the crippling anxiety she says she suffered from since she was four, she “never” would have been able to participate during those difficult years.
She said: “I just couldn’t have done this campaign before. Get on a plane and meet new people and film a lingerie campaign. Anxiety is suffocating and you just end up limiting, it makes your life so much smaller. I am 25 years old now. and I’ve spent a lot of time working on it with therapy, but it’s only in the last three or four years that I feel less restricted. “
Clara also admitted that her mother Eve and her 19-year-old sister Esther play a huge role in her mental health these days.
She said, “My sister Esther and my mom are very helpful. If I’m going through that, it often helps just to talk to them.”
It comes when the model is ready to start working on a movie starring alongside her father, in which Ewan plays a father in distress who takes his drug-addicted daughter to rehab.
Clara said, “My father plays my father in the movie, and it’s a road trip movie and it’s something that was very loosely inspired by our relationship.”
