The St. Louis Cardinals shocked the MLB community by winning 17 straight games in September and a National League playoff spot, but ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in that game.
This defeat was evidently enough for the cardinals to go in a different direction.
“While these decisions are difficult, both sides agreed that philosophical differences over the direction of the organization led us to this conclusion,” said John Moselak, president of baseball operations in St. Louis, in a prepared statement. “With only one year left in Mike’s contract, it was in everyone’s best interest to address this issue.”
Schildt laid out a three-year agreement for 2019.
